Yoga for Life (YFL) is looking for passionate volunteers who are willing to share their energies in the service of the community under the YFL Student Empowerment for Volunteerism & Advocacy (SEVA) Program.

Seva is a Sanskrit word for the yoga concept and practice of "selfless giving". YFL teachers share their time and energy with the YFL community as part of their seva practice. With seva, every action, great or small, makes a difference.

The Yoga for Life community is rapidly growing, and we are looking for individuals who want to further enrich their YFL experience through wilful service as YFL SEVA Volunteers.

We encourage applications from people who:
  • Identify as part of a key affected population such as but not limited to men who have sex with men, gay people, bisexual people, transgender people, and others
  • Are living with HIV, but not necessarily openly so
  • Have joined at least four of our community classes in any of our studios
  • Are within 21 to 35 years of age
  • Has her or his own source of income as this is a volunteer post
  • Are tech-savvy, or at least not tech-averse
  • Live in close proximity to, or have easy access to, any of our community classes

YFL SEVA Program participants will:
  • Train under the Community Assistance, Referral, and Engagement (CARE) Officers of YFL
  • Undergo a mentorship program under one of the CARE Officers of YFL in engaging the community
  • Carry out duties of a YFL SEVA volunteer in a pilot site under the supervision of a CARE Officer

The Program will prepare the YFL SEVA volunteer to:
  • Help in nurturing the community she or he is assigned to
  • Assist the yoga teacher during classes
  • Identify the needs of community members in terms of HIV care and support
  • Enrol community members in need to the YFL CARE Referral Program
  • Monitor community attendance in classes
  • Ensure continuous influx of new students in classes
  • Ensure student retention in classes

YFL CARE Volunteers can further specialize in the following tracks:
  • Community Assistance, Referral & Engagement Volunteer Track
  • Communications Volunteer Track
  • Partnerships Volunteer Track
  • Events Volunteer Track

If you feel that the seed of service within you is ready to bloom, email us at yogaforlife.ph(at)gmail(dot)com with your letter of interest and your CV. Deadline of submission of applications is on September 28, 2014. The successful volunteers will be engaged under a six-month volunteer agreement, subject to renewal.

Hi Junette, there are no age restrictions, we just encourage applications from people within this age range. But everyone is welcome to volunteer. :)

I do want to take part in this. At one point of my past life I did teach Yoga and would like to get that opportunity again. I did notice the 21-35 age, as the first commenter noticed too. I'm 43.
